Hi I’m Doug Rehnstrom and welcome to my profile. Writing this prompted me to look up my history with Learning Tree and noticed it is 10 ago years this week (July 5, 2000) that I taught my first Learning Tree class in Rockville, Maryland.
That class was my all-time favorite, “Enterprise Web Development with ASP”. We wrote COM components and used COM+ and DCOM and did distributed transactions. The week was overwhelming but we had a lot of fun! That course title has long since retired in favor of ASP.NET.
Since then I’ve taught 266 Learning Tree classes to 3971 students and have authored eight courses. I’m very excited about the most recent course I have authored – Windows Azure Platform Introduction: Programming Cloud-Based Applications. Having been a programmer and .NET developer for more years than I will admit, I was attracted to Azure because of the ease in which applications can be deployed and how it eliminates the need to adminstrate and buy physical servers.
In addition to the Azure course, I also teach Web development, Software Engineering, the .NET curricula and a project management class, Agile Project Management with Scrum.
The courses that I’ve authored include the following:
I’ve also been fortunate to work as technical editor, technical advisor and product manager on many courses with other Learning Tree authors and instructors, some of the smartest people I know!
While working for Learning Tree, I’ve maintained my consulting business, which I started in 1991. When I started in consulting I did hardware and networking and setup Novell servers (there’s a name from the past). Not so gradually I moved away from running wires to programming. Over the years I’ve moved from mainframe to FoxBase to Windows to VB to ASP to ASP.NET to WPF and Silverlight. These days I do more architecture and design and mentoring than programming (it’s not nearly as fun).
I hope to see you on course soon!
